{6} Things to Do When You're Feeling Super Frustrated

Frustration Blog Post.png

“I am so frustrated right now.
I feel like I’m doing everything wrong.
I feel like I’m letting everyone down.
Does any of this even matter?
Do I even matter?
What if I don’t know what I’m talking about?
I should just give up.
Who am I to think I could do this?”

Have you ever felt this way? Things are going great and then something totally sets you off and you end up spiraling way down the rabbit hole and you feel like you just want to give up??
Oh sister, I have felt the same way more times than I can count. The above is actually word-for-word directly from my own personal journal…
and I wrote it this past Tuesday with tears flowing.
Yup. For real, no joke – I wrote all of that 4 days ago.
And do you want to know what set me off? It was the fact that I couldn’t figure out how to email a video out for the new oracle readings I’m offering🙈.

Seriously. I was going to let THAT stop me from continuing this important work.
I was going to let a technical glitch stop me from providing the messages I’m meant to provide to the people who are meant to hear it.
I was going to let a stupid little technological obstacle stop me from fulfilling my dream and pursuing my purpose.
Like, what in the actual……?
I’ve been doing the really hard, internal work for a while now, but here’s the thing: there are STILL moments where something happens and it sends me spiraling back into the anxious, perfectionistic, type-A person I used to be.

First of all, it’s OKAY to feel frustrated, and second of all, we end up feeling frustrated when our reality doesn’t meet our expectations. I expected to be able to send out a video easy peasy no problem, but in reality that is NOT what happened… hence the frustration!

So what did I do to pull myself out of it??

1.  I stepped away from what I was doing. I went into another room. I removed myself from the situation.

2.  I turned inward and intentionally focused on and FELT the frustration. I let it seep into my pores and flow through my veins...

3.  and then I released it. In order to physically release the frustration and get the emotion out of my body, I cried. HARD. And then I literally screamed into a pillow.

4.  I got my team involved.  I connected with my coach who helped talk me through it. I got to the bottom of where my frustration stemmed from (newsflash: it wasn’t just the fact that I couldn’t get the technology to work), and it led me alllllllll the way back to something that happened in 7th grade. Yup. Sometimes you’ve got to go “there”. But by doing so, I realized that it wasn’t ME who was reacting this way… it was the 7th grade version of me who’s still with me, and she just needed some love.

{Note: Getting your team involved doesn’t just mean a “bitch-sesh”. Reach out to someone who will actually help you work through the feels, not just put a bandaid on them.)

5.  I took a nap. When heavy emotions have flowed through your body, it’s OKAY to give yourself the time and space to reset.

6. When I awoke, I opened my journal, flipped the script and rewrote the story:

I am grounded.
There is no wrong way to do my soul’s work.
I release the worry that I am letting anybody down.

I am always doing my best.
My work DOES matter.
I matter.
I know exactly what I’m talking about, and it’s my duty to share it with the world.”

And after all of that, I went back to my computer and completed the thing I needed to complete and it was all ok.😊

You see, it’s not a matter of avoiding triggers or never being triggered again for the rest of your life, it’s a matter of knowing how to process through the situation and use that energy and growth to propel you to the next level. Moving forward, I will do my best to not be attached to my expectations in order to allow things to unfold as they may - because I don’t have control over what happens; I can only control my reactions.
The internal work never stops. It’s now just a shorter period of time between the downward spiral and coming back up to the light.

The Beginner's Guide to Mindset Work: Introduction

The Beginner's Guide to Mindset Work: Introduction

When I began my personal development journey, I wished for one place where I could go to learn all about mindset instead of having to piecemeal it all together. Because I couldn’t find it, I have decided to create it for you - here’s an introduction to my new weekly series, “The Beginner’s Guide to Mindset Work”.

What is My Purpose in Life?

What is My Purpose in Life?

I asked myself the question “what is my purpose in life?” A LOT when I first started on my self-discovery journey. I Googled the question to death searching and searching and searching and just dying for someone out there on the internet to give me the answer to this most poignant question. The answer that would define my whole life. The concept of life purpose is so profound that I was terrified to give myself the answer, because… what if I was wrong?
